Federal Finance Minister Flaherty's 2009-2010 Federal Budget contains a lot of measures to support the Canadian economy in the face of serious world and domestic economic challenges. In RCC's view the Budget is probably as responsible a document as one might hope for, but it will have only a modest impact on consumer traffic and spending for most retailers this year. The initiatives and the estimated impacts provided by the Government are for their fiscal years which do not line up with the retail year. In most cases this means that the impact for retailers is delayed into at least the second half of the 2009 retail year.
