Member Alert: Ontario Announces RST Exemption for Bicycles and Bicycle Helmets:
Exemption to Take Effect December 1, 2007
On November 9, 2007, Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty announced that bicycles and related safety equipment will be exempt from retail sales tax (RST) at the point-of-sale. "Related safety equipment" includes bicycle helmets; reflectors; lights (including generators, battery operated lights); bells, horns and mirrors. The exemption applies to these items sold on or after December 1, 2007.
